Lawrence Tynes is a former American football kicker who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons. He was born on May 3, 1978, in Scotland but raised in Florida. Tynes attended Troy University before playing in the NFL. He went undrafted in the 2001 NFL Draft but eventually signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played for three seasons. Tynes played for the New York Giants from 2007 to 2012, where he won two Super Bowl championships. In the 2007-2008 season, Tynes scored the game-winning field goal in overtime of the NFC Championship game that sent the Giants to Super Bowl XLII. The Giants defeated the undefeated New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, and Tynes played a crucial role in the victory. He went on to win another Super Bowl with the Giants in 2012. Tynes finished his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing for two seasons before announcing his retirement in 2015.

During his career, Tynes was known for his accuracy and clutch performances. He made 81.2% of his field goals and 98.1% of his extra points. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2008 and was twice named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Tynes is considered one of the most successful kickers in NFL history, with a total of 1,081 points scored throughout his career.
