Mark Richt is a former American football player and coach. He was born in 1960 in Omaha, Nebraska but grew up in Boca Raton, Florida. He played as a quarterback for the University of Miami from 1978 to 1982, serving as a backup to future Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Kelly. He led the Hurricanes to a 9-2 season in his senior year, earning him an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game. More about Mark Richt

After his playing career, Richt began his coaching career. He served as an assistant coach for Florida State for 14 seasons, including two national championship seasons in 1993 and 1999. Richt also served as the offensive coordinator for the Seminoles from 1994 to 2000. He then became the head coach for the University of Georgia from 2001 to 2015. During his tenure as the head coach, Richt led the Bulldogs to two Southeastern Conference Championships and nine bowl wins. In 2015, Richt was dismissed as the head coach and was subsequently hired as the head coach for the University of Miami, his alma mater.

Richt retired from coaching in December 2018 after three seasons as the head coach at Miami. At the time of his retirement, he had a career record of 171-64 as a head coach. He also coached numerous future NFL players, including Pro Bowlers Matt Stafford, A.J. Green, and Todd Gurley. During his career, Richt was known for his offensive prowess and his ability to develop quarterbacks.
