Pat Summerall Autograph

Pat Summerall was born on May 10, 1930, in Florida. Though he was a multi-sport athlete in high school, it was football that led him to earn a scholarship to attend the University of Arkansas. During his time there, Summerall excelled as a kicker and earned All-Southwest Conference honors. In 1952, he was drafted by the Detroit Lions and played in the NFL for ten seasons, eight of which were with the New York Giants. After retiring from football in 1962, Summerall found a new career in broadcast journalism. He started working as a sports commentator and eventually became one of the most recognizable voices in American Football broadcasting. Summerall’s deep, distinctive voice and straightforward delivery made him a perfect fit for the job. He worked for CBS for over 30 years and was the lead announcer for 16 Super Bowls. Summerall was also known for his partnership with former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Troy Aikman, in the booth.

In addition to his broadcasting career, Summerall made multiple contributions to American Football as a game official, author, and as a mentor to younger broadcasters following in his footsteps. Summerall was inducted into the American Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame in 1999, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest voices and players in football history.
