In the 2008 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks selected John Carlson in the second round as the 38th overall pick. Carlson quickly established himself as one of the top tight ends in the league, catching 55 passes for 627 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie year. He followed that up with another impressive season, catching 51 passes for 574 yards and seven touchdowns in 2009. Injuries later derailed his career, but Carlson still had a solid nine-year career, playing for the Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, and Arizona Cardinals, and recording 210 receptions, 2,256 receiving yards, and 15 touchdowns.

In 2014, after playing for the Cardinal's, Carlson announced his retirement from football. Although he retired from the NFL, Carlson still remains heavily involved in the sport, serving as a volunteer assistant coach for the Eden Prairie High School football program in his home state of Minnesota. Carlson's professional career was impressive, and his contribution to American football was invaluable, especially for young players looking to succeed in the sport.
