Wayne Connelly Autographs
Wayne Connelly was born on April 10, 1939, in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada. He started playing hockey at an early age and quickly showed his talent on the ice. He started his senior hockey career with the Kapuskasing Flyers of the Northern Ontario Hockey Association. In 1958, he moved to play for the Fort William Canadians and helped the team win the Memorial Cup.
After his successful stint with the Canadians, Connelly was signed by the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League. He played for the Blackhawks for four years from 1960 to 1964, scoring 57 goals and 83 assists in 246 games. Later he played for the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, and Minnesota North Stars. In his 11 years in the NHL, he scored 105 goals, 174 assists in 484 games. Connelly was known for his speed, agility, and his ability to play in many positions, including center, left and right-wing positions.
After retiring from professional hockey in 1972, Connelly went on to coach at many levels of the sport. He worked as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Kings and was the head coach for the Saginaw Gears of the International Hockey League. He was inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Fort William Hurricanes Wall of Fame in 2012. Wayne Connelly passed away on August 15, 2017, but his contributions to the sport of hockey and his achievements on the ice continue to make an impact on the game.
