Dunn began his professional baseball career with the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League in 1998. He quickly rose through the ranks of the Reds' minor league system and made his MLB debut with the team in 2001. During his time with Cincinnati, Dunn established himself as one of the most powerful hitters in the game, hitting 40 or more home runs in four consecutive seasons from 2004-2007.

After his tenure with the Reds, Dunn played for several other teams, including the Arizona Diamondbacks, Washington Nationals, Chicago White Sox, and Oakland Athletics. Throughout his career, he was known for his power hitting and high walk rate. He finished his career with 462 home runs, 1,168 walks, and a .237 batting average.
