Al Leiter is a former professional baseball player who was born on October 23, 1965, in Toms River, New Jersey. He grew up in New Jersey and attended Central Regional High School, where he played baseball as a pitcher. After graduating from high school, he went to the University of Florida and played college baseball for the Gators. In 1984, he was drafted by the New York Yankees in the second round and began his professional baseball career.
Leiter played for six different teams during his 19-year career in Major League Baseball, including the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and New York Mets. He was known for his consistent pitching and his ability to strike out batters. He helped lead the Toronto Blue Jays to back-to-back World Series championships in 1992 and 1993, and was a two-time All-Star in 1996 and 2000. Leiter is also one of only 108 pitchers in baseball history to throw a no-hitter, which he accomplished on May 11, 1996, while playing for the Florida Marlins.
After retiring from baseball in 2005, Leiter became a broadcaster for the YES Network and MLB Network, where he continues to provide analysis and commentary on baseball games. He was also inducted into the New Jersey Sports Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2009 and the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 2013. Leiter’s career in baseball demonstrated his hard work, dedication, and talent, and he remains a respected figure in the world of sports broadcasting today.
