Andy Etchebarren Autographs
Andy Etchebarren was born on June 20, 1943, in Whittier, California. He attended Western High School and was a standout athlete in baseball, basketball, and football but ultimately chose baseball as his focus. After graduation, he played one year of college baseball at Citrus College before being signed by the Baltimore Orioles as an amateur free agent in 1962.
Etchebarren made his major league debut with the Orioles in 1962, but it wasn't until 1965 that he became a regular on the team. He quickly established himself as one of the best defensive catchers in the league, winning three consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 1966 to 1968. His skills behind the plate were instrumental in helping the Orioles win four American League pennants and two World Series championships in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Etchebarren played for the Orioles until 1975 before finishing his career with short stints on the California Angels and Milwaukee Brewers. During his 15-year career, he accumulated a .235 batting average, 49 home runs, and 346 RBIs. He was known for his toughness and leadership on the field, and his contributions to the Orioles' success during his tenure cannot be overstated. After retiring from playing, Etchebarren went on to coach in the major leagues and minor leagues, as well as managing several teams in the independent leagues.
