Williams made his major league debut on August 6, 1959, with the Chicago Cubs. He played with the Cubs for 16 seasons before moving to the Oakland Athletics for his final two seasons in the league. Williams' time with the Cubs was highly acclaimed as he was able to showcase his impressive talent on the field. He was a six-time All-Star selection and won the National League Rookie of the Year award in 1961.

Williams was also highly remembered for the records he set. Throughout his career, he played in 1,117 consecutive games between 1963 and 1970. He also hit 426 doubles, 67 triples, and 392 home runs in 2,488 games. Billy Williams retired in 1976 and has since been inducted into the Chicago Cubs Hall of Fame and the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
