During his career, Lemon was known for his impressive pitching ability and his consistency on the mound. He was particularly known for his devastating sinker ball, which many batters found impossible to hit. Lemon was also known for his clutch performances in big games. In addition to his World Series win in 1948, he also helped the Indians to win the American League pennant six times between 1948 and 1956.

Lemon's achievements in baseball earned him a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976. Following his retirement from playing, he went on to work as a coach and manager for various teams, including the Kansas City Royals and the New York Yankees.
