Bonilla's most successful years came during the early 1990s while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was named to the All-Star team six times, won three Silver Slugger awards, and finished in the top ten in National League MVP voting three times. In 1990, he led the Pirates to an NL East division championship and hit .400 in the NL Championship Series, but the team ultimately lost to the Cincinnati Reds in the World Series. He played his final game in the majors in 2001, finishing his career with a batting average of .279, 287 home runs, and 1,173 RBI, along with two World Series championships with the Florida Marlins (1997) and the New York Yankees (2000).

Off the field, Bonilla has remained a prominent figure in the sports world. In 2000, he signed a unique contract with the New York Mets, which allowed him to defer his $5.9 million salary until 2011, with an 8% interest rate. The deferred payments began on July 1, 2011, and will continue through 2035, ultimately resulting in Bonilla receiving nearly $30 million from the Mets. Nowadays, he serves as a special assistant to the New York Mets' General Manager, and also offers advice and mentorship to young baseball players. Read even more about Bobby Bonilla at Wikipedia
