Brad Lidge is a former Major League Baseball player who was born on December 23, 1976, in Sacramento, California. Lidge began his career at the baseball team of the University of Notre Dame, where he played as a starting pitcher for the Fighting Irish. After college, Lidge was selected by the Houston Astros in the first round of the 1998 Major League Baseball draft. Lidge's best years in the league came between 2004 and 2008 when he played for the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies. During this span, he was an All-Star twice and participated in two World Series, winning one with the Phillies in 2008. Lidge also had an outstanding 2008 season in which he recorded 41 saves and did not blow a single save opportunity throughout the year. In total, he finished his career with a record of 26-32, an earned run average of 3.54, and 225 saves.

After a 11-year career in the Major Leagues, Lidge announced his retirement from baseball in December 2012. In his retirement statement, Lidge said that he wanted to spend more time with his family and start a new chapter in his life. Lidge achieved remarkable success over the course of his career, and his high point came when he closed out the final game of the 2008 World Series, striking out the Tampa Bay Rays' Eric Hinske to clinch the championship for the Phillies.
