Brett Butler is a former American professional baseball player who was born on June 15, 1957, in Los Angeles, California. Butler played for five different teams over his 17-year Major League Baseball career, starting with the Atlanta Braves in 1981 and ending with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1997. Butler's baseball career began in earnest in 1979, when he was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 23rd round of the amateur draft. After working his way through the minor leagues, Butler made his MLB debut with the Braves in 1981. He quickly established himself as a solid defensive outfielder, and he earned his first Gold Glove award in 1987.
