Matusz made his MLB debut in August 2009 and spent most of the next seven seasons with the Orioles. He was a reliable left-handed starter, often working as the club's third or fourth pitcher in the rotation. Matusz compiled a career 27-41 record with a 4.92 ERA and 470 strikeouts over 512 innings pitched. While he was divisive among fans, Matusz was praised by Orioles management for his work ethic, willingness to improve, and strong off-field character.

In 2016, Matusz was traded to the Atlanta Braves, where he had a brief stint before being released. He signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Cubs but suffered a back injury and never appeared in a game for the team. Matusz announced his retirement from professional baseball in 2018 and currently serves as a scout for the Los Angeles Angels. Though his MLB career was brief, Matusz's time in the league proved that he was among the most talented young pitchers of his time. Read even more about Brian Matusz at Wikipedia
