Buck Martinez is a former Major League Baseball catcher and manager. He was born on November 7, 1948, in Redding, California. Martinez began his professional baseball career in 1967, when he was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies. After spending several years in their minor league system, Martinez made his MLB debut in 1976. Martinez is perhaps best known for his time with the Blue Jays. He joined the team as a player in 1981 and quickly became a fan favorite. In 1983, Martinez helped lead the Blue Jays to their first American League East title. He was also a key part of the team's back-to-back World Series victories in 1992 and 1993. After retiring as a player in 1986, Martinez became a broadcaster for the Blue Jays.
