Cal Ripken, Jr.Cal Ripken, Jr. was born on August 24, 1960, in Havre De Grace, Maryland. He grew up in a baseball family, and his father, Cal Ripken, Sr., was a coach for the Baltimore Orioles during his childhood. Ripken Jr. began playing baseball at a young age and was drafted by the Orioles in 1978. After just two years of minor league play, Ripken made his major league debut in 1981 and quickly became a star player for the team.
Throughout his career, Cal Ripken, Jr. gained a reputation as one of the greatest shortstops to ever play the game. He was known for his impressive defensive skills and his incredible endurance, playing in a record-breaking 2,632 consecutive games from 1982 to 1998. During his career, Ripken won numerous awards and accolades, including two American League MVP awards, two Gold Glove awards, and 19 All-Star selections. He also helped lead the Orioles to two American League pennants and the 1983 World Series championship.
After retiring from baseball in 2001, Cal Ripken, Jr. continued to be involved in the sport as a coach, author, and advocate for youth baseball. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007, and his legacy as a player and ambassador for the game continues to inspire future generations of baseball players.
