Cal Ripken

Cal Ripken Jr., born August 24, 1960, is a retired American baseball shortstop and third baseman. He played for the Baltimore Orioles from 1981 to 2001, spending his entire career with the team. Ripken was known for his incredible work ethic, durability, and consistency, earning him the nickname "Iron Man." He broke many records during his career, including Lou Gehrig's record of consecutive games played and the record for most home runs by a shortstop. Ripken was drafted by the Orioles in 1978 and spent three years in the minor leagues before making his major league debut in 1981. Over the years, he became a fan favorite in Baltimore and a face of the league. Ripken was known for his unwavering dedication to the game and his commitment to playing through injuries. His streak of playing in 2,632 consecutive games is one of baseball's most impressive records and earned him a place in the history books.

Throughout his career, Ripken earned numerous awards and accolades, including Rookie of the Year in 1982 and American League MVP in 1983 and 1991. He was also named to the All-Star team 19 times and won two Gold Glove Awards for his defensive skills.
