Carl Erskine

Carl Erskine is a former professional baseball player who spent his entire career with the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers. He was born on December 13, 1926, in Anderson, Indiana. Erskine began his baseball career as a pitcher at Anderson High School. After graduation, he attended Anderson College but eventually transferred to Anderson University where he was a standout athlete. Erskine made his major league debut in 1948 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He quickly established himself as one of the team's top pitchers, leading the National League in strikeouts in 1953 and 1954. He gained a reputation for his curveball and his ability to throw strikes consistently. Erskine was also known for his postseason heroics, most notably in the 1952 World Series against the New York Yankees. He pitched a complete game shutout in Game 5, helping the Dodgers win their first championship in franchise history.

Erskine retired from baseball in 1959 after 11 seasons with the Dodgers. He finished his career with a record of 122-78 and an ERA of 4.00. After retiring from baseball, Erskine spent several years working as a representative for a pharmaceutical company. He also became a popular speaker, sharing his experiences in baseball and his Christian faith with audiences across the country.
