One year after graduating high school in 1972, Lemon was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft. After playing in the minor leagues for a few seasons, Lemon was traded to the Chicago White Sox, where he established himself as one of the best center fielders in the league. During his baseball career, Lemon played for four different teams, including the White Sox, the Detroit Tigers, the Chicago Cubs, and the Oakland Athletics. He was an All-Star player in 1978 and 1984 and helped lead the Detroit Tigers to a World Series victory in 1984.

After retiring from baseball in 1991, Lemon went on to become a high school basketball coach in Orlando, Florida. He has also been active in charity work through his Chet Lemon's Juice Foundation, which provides academic and athletic support to at-risk children. Despite his many accomplishments both on and off the field, Lemon is perhaps best remembered for his speed, grace, and agility in the outfield, which made him one of the most exciting players of his generation.
