Christy Mathewson was born on August 12, 1880, in Factoryville, Pennsylvania. He was a legendary baseball player who is still regarded as one of the greatest pitchers of all time in baseball history. He played for the New York Giants from 1900 to 1916 and had a career ERA of 2.13, which is still considered as one of the lowest among all-time major league pitchers. Mathewson retired from baseball late in 1916, and the following year he enlisted in the Army and served in World War I. After the war, he moved on to writing and even wrote several books about baseball. However, despite a successful career in writing, he never lost his love for baseball, and he continued to support the game as a coach and mentor to young players. Due to tuberculosis, he died on October 7, 1925, at the age of 45. Mathewson will always be remembered for his iconic contributions to the sport of baseball, and his legacy lives on in the history books of baseball.
