Dario Lodigiani Autograph

Dario Lodigiani, also known as "Dolly," was a professional baseball player and coach, born in San Francisco on June 6, 1916. He was of Italian descent and started playing baseball while in high school. In 1933, he signed up with the San Francisco Seals, but after playing just one game, he was released. He then played amateur baseball in various leagues before being signed by the Chicago White Sox in 1936. More about Dario Lodigiani

Dolly Lodigiani played for the White Sox from 1938-1941, playing in 418 total games. He was well known for his fielding skills, playing primarily at third base, and had a career fielding percentage of .962. In 1941, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates but only played in 18 games with them before leaving to serve in World War II. After the war, he returned to baseball and played for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1946 and the New York Yankees in 1947, winning the World Series with them that year. He retired as a player after the 1947 season but continued to work in baseball as a coach for several minor league teams.

After his coaching career, Dolly Lodigiani settled in California, where he owned and operated a liquor store. In 1998, he was inducted into the Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to the game of baseball. Dario Lodigiani passed away on February 10, 2008, at the age of 91.
