Kingman spent fifteen years in the MLB, playing for six different teams such as the Giants, New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics, and California Angels. He is known for his tremendous hitting abilities, powerful home runs, and steady performances in the outfield. He was nicknamed "Kong" due to his size and ability to hit mammoth home runs. In his career, he amassed 442 home runs, 1,210 runs batted in, and 1,476 hits. Despite being an all-time home run leader, Kingman was also notorious for his high strikeout rate and low on-base percentage, which was often criticized by the fans and media.

After retiring from baseball in 1986, Kingman continued to work in the sport as a coach, broadcaster, and manager for several minor league teams. He also appeared in a few movies and TV shows, including the 1983 film, The Naked Gun. In 2004, Kingman was inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame. Dave Kingman may not have been the most consistent player or the most popular among fans, but his raw talent, dedication, and on-field contributions helped shape the game of baseball for decades.
