LaRoche would eventually find success as a reliever, primarily as a left-handed specialist. He is perhaps best known for his signature pitch, the “LaRoche Screwball,” which he threw with great effectiveness throughout his career. In 1974, LaRoche recorded a career-high 17 saves for the Angels, earning him an All-Star Game selection. He would go on to play for six other MLB teams, including the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, and Chicago Cubs. LaRoche retired in 1983 with a career record of 65-58, 126 saves, and a 3.53 ERA.

After his playing career ended, LaRoche became a coach and pitching instructor. He worked with several MLB teams, including the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, and Arizona Diamondbacks. LaRoche has also been involved in the community, founding the Left-Handed Pitcher’s Association and writing a book about his experiences in baseball titled, “The Art of Pitching.” LaRoche’s contributions to the game of baseball, both as a player and a coach, have earned him a place in the sport’s history.
