Magadan started his professional baseball career with the New York Mets in 1986. He played with the Mets for four years and then moved to the Florida Marlins in 1993. Later, he spent three seasons with the Seattle Mariners before being traded to the Houston Astros in 1997. In 2000, Magadan re-signed with the Oakland Athletics and became a free agent in 2001, which marked the end of his career. Magadan was renowned for his hitting expertise during his career. He had a great understanding of the strike zone and his walks and on-base percentage were outstanding. Additionally, he won two batting titles while playing as the Texas's Rangers designated hitter in 1993 and 1994.
