Dave Morehead Autographs
Dave Morehead was an American professional baseball player who played as a pitcher. Born on May 31, 1942, in San Diego, California, Morehead began his baseball career in the Boston Red Sox organization. He made his major league debut for the Red Sox in 1963, but he only played for a few games as a relief pitcher. It wasn't until 1965, when he joined the starting rotation, that Morehead began to make a mark in the league.
Morehead's most memorable moment in his career came on September 16, 1965, when he threw a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians, becoming the first Red Sox rookie in over 50 years to do so. He finished the season with a 14-10 record and an impressive 2.98 ERA which earned him a spot in the All-Star game in 1966. However, his career went downhill after this successful season. He struggled with injuries and inconsistent performance, and he was eventually released by the Red Sox in 1969.
Despite his short career, Morehead's contribution to the Red Sox and his no-hitter game in 1965 remain a significant part of baseball's history. After retiring from baseball, Morehead settled in Arkansas and worked in insurance. He unfortunately passed away on September 4, 2020, at the age of 78. Nonetheless, his legacy as a talented baseball player who threw a no-hitter as a rookie will always be remembered and celebrated.
