Derek Lee is a former Major League Baseball player, born on September 6, 1975, in Sacramento, California. Lee attended El Camino Fundamental High School in Sacramento before being selected by the San Diego Padres in the first round of the 1993 MLB Draft. It was with the Marlins that Lee had his most successful years as a player. In 2003, he helped the Marlins win the World Series by hitting .328 with 31 home runs and 92 RBIs during the regular season. In the postseason, he hit .320 with three home runs and ten RBIs. Lee was also named the National League Championship Series Most Valuable Player. He continued his success in 2005 by hitting .335 with 46 home runs and 107 RBIs, finishing third in the National League MVP voting.

After leaving the Marlins in 2005, Lee played for the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, and Pittsburgh Pirates before retiring in 2011. He was a two-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, and won the Silver Slugger Award twice. In his 15-year career, Lee hit .281 with 331 home runs and 1,078 RBIs. He is remembered as one of the most consistent and reliable first basemen of his era.
