Derrick May is a former Major League Baseball outfielder who played for several teams during his career from 1990 to 1999. May was born on July 14, 1968, in Rochester, New York, and grew up in California. He attended Newark Memorial High School and was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the first round of the 1986 Major League Baseball draft.
May made his Major League debut with the Cubs in 1990 and played with the team until 1994. He was then traded to the Milwaukee Brewers and also played for the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies before retiring after the 1999 season. During his career, May batted .271 with 53 home runs and 334 RBIs in 821 games. He was known for his excellent defensive skills and was a valuable asset to any team he played for.
After his playing career, May worked as a hitting coach for several minor league teams and as a scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was also involved in several charitable organizations, including the Derrick May Foundation, which provides scholarships and other support for underprivileged youth. May's contributions to the game of baseball and his community have made him a respected figure both on and off the field.
