Hall grew up in a football-loving family and started playing the sport at an early age, following in the footsteps of his older brother who became a successful football player at the University of Alabama. After his high school graduation, Hall was recruited by several colleges before he decided to become a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. During his tenure playing for the Crimson Tide from 2004-2007, Hall became one of the team's most prolific wide receivers. He finished his college career with 194 receptions for 2,923 yards and 17 touchdowns in 48 games, setting several school and SEC conference records. Hall was named to the First-team All-SEC in 2006 and 2007 seasons and to the All-American Second Team in the 2007 campaign.

Hall's college success was reflected by both his performance in the NFL Scouting Combine and his Draft selection in the NFL. He was selected by the New York Giants in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. However, he was then traded to the Denver Broncos and played a brief stint with the Indianapolis Colts before being waived in 2010. Although DJ Hall's American Football career was short-lived at the professional level, he remains a celebrated figure in the annals of college football, remembered for his amazing skill set and exceptional achievements as a wide receiver at the University of Alabama.
