Doc Medich Autographs
Doc Medich was a professional baseball player who played for eleven seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) between 1972 and 1982. He was born on December 9, 1948, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Pittsburgh. In 1970, he was drafted by the New York Yankees in the first round of the MLB Draft and started his professional baseball career.
Medich's career spanned over a decade that saw him play for teams such as the Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, and Oakland Athletics. He was a starting pitcher who had a career record of 124-105 with a 3.78 earned run average (ERA). In 1974, he had his best season while playing for the Yankees, where he won 19 games and had a 2.95 ERA. He was named an All-Star for his performance that year, and he finished second in the American League Cy Young Award balloting.
Despite his success, Medich is perhaps best known for a trade that sent him to Pittsburgh in exchange for superstar pitcher, Doc Ellis. The trade was widely criticized at the time, and many fans believed the Yankees had made a mistake. However, Medich went on to have a solid career, whereas Ellis struggled with injuries and was out of baseball in a few years. Medich retired from baseball in 1982 and went on to pursue a career in medicine, earning a medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
