Mientkiewicz made his MLB debut with the Twins in 1998, but it was the 2001 season that really put him on the map. That year, he hit .306 with 15 home runs and 74 RBI, earning a Gold Glove award for his stellar play at first base. He remained with the Twins until 2004, becoming a fan favorite for his all-out hustle on the field.

After leaving Minnesota, Mientkiewicz bounced around the league, playing for the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Kansas City Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Los Angeles Dodgers. He retired in 2010 with a .271 career batting average, 66 home runs, and 405 RBI. Despite never making an All-Star team, Mientkiewicz was respected by his peers for his work ethic and leadership, and he remains a beloved figure in Minnesota baseball lore.
