Martinez was known for his hitting ability, particularly his ability to make contact with the ball. He was a seven-time all-star, won five Silver Slugger awards, and was named the American League batting champion in 1992. He was also a three-time winner of the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter award, named in his honor.

Martinez played his entire 18-year career with the Seattle Mariners, retiring in 2004. He finished with a career batting average of .312, 2,247 hits, 1,219 runs batted in, and 309 home runs. In 2019, Martinez was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, recognizing his outstanding achievements as one of the greatest designated hitters in baseball history.
