Edward Mujica is a former professional baseball pitcher from Venezuela who had a remarkable career in the Major League Baseball (MLB) spanning over 13 years. Mujica was born on May 10, 1984, in Valencia, Venezuela, where he grew up with a passion for baseball. He started his professional career in 2001 when he was signed as an international free agent by the Cleveland Indians.
In 2006, Mujica made his MLB debut with the Cleveland Indians and played for them until 2008 before joining the San Diego Padres. However, it was with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2013 that Mujica became a household name. He was a critical part of the Cardinals' bullpen and helped them win the National League Central title in 2013. Mujica set a franchise record with 21 saves and finished the season with a 2.78 ERA. He also had a remarkable season in 2014 when he was traded to the Boston Red Sox mid-season. He pitched in 141 games over two years for the Red Sox, recording an impressive 3.04 ERA.
Edward Mujica ended his career in 2019 after playing for multiple teams, including the Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers, and Seattle Mariners. Over the course of his career, he had a total of 628 strikeouts, 50 saves, and a 3.85 ERA in 674 games. Mujica will always be remembered for his velocity, command, and leadership qualities. He was a reliable and consistent performer and a beloved member of every team he played for. After retiring from baseball, Mujica returned to his native Venezuela, where he has been actively engaged in developing young baseball players in the country.
