Elvis Andrus is a Venezuelan professional baseball player who currently serves as a shortstop for the Oakland Athletics in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born in Maracay, Venezuela in 1988 and started his professional baseball career in 2005 when he was just 17 years old. In 2007, Andrus was signed by the Texas Rangers, and he made his major league debut in 2009. In his first season, he finished second in the American League Rookie of the Year award after batting .267 with six home runs, 40 RBIs, and 33 stolen bases. Andrus helped lead the Rangers to two consecutive World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011, and he was named to the All-Star team in 2010, 2012, and 2016.
