Banks quickly made a name for himself in the Cubs organization, earning his first All-Star nod in 1955. In 1958, he set a record for most home runs in a season by a shortstop with 47, a record that he held until 2001 when Alex Rodriguez hit 52. Banks was known for his power hitting and his love for the game. He won consecutive National League Most Valuable Player awards in 1958 and 1959 and finished his career with 512 home runs. In 1977, Banks was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players in the game.

Off the field, Banks was known for his infectious personality and his signature catchphrase, "Let's play two!" which he famously used to express his love for doubleheaders. He was active in the Chicago community, particularly in youth baseball programs, and was a beloved figure in the city. Banks passed away on January 23, 2015 at the age of 83, but his impact on the game of baseball and on the city of Chicago will never be forgotten. Read even more about Ernie Banks at Wikipedia
