Sanchez made his professional debut for the Red Sox in 2002, but it wasn't until he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2003 that he made a name for himself. He quickly became a fan favorite in Pittsburgh and won the National League batting title in 2006. Sanchez continued his impressive performance in 2009, earning his third All-Star selection and setting a new Pirates record for consecutive games with a hit.

In July 2009, Sanchez was traded to the San Francisco Giants where he played until his retirement in 2013. He played a crucial role in helping the Giants win the World Series in 2010, earning the World Series MVP award. Throughout his career, Sanchez was known for his consistent hitting and exceptional defense at second base.
