Gene Michael Autographs

Gene "Stick" Michael was an American baseball shortstop, coach, and executive. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 17th round of the 1957 Major League Baseball Draft, but did not make his major league debut until 1966 when he was with the New York Yankees. Michael played for the Yankees from 1968 to 1974 before finishing his playing career with the Detroit Tigers in 1975. In his career, Michael recorded a .229 batting average, 15 home runs, and 94 runs batted in.
After his playing career, Michael became a coach in the Yankees organization before becoming the team's general manager in 1980. As GM, he helped build the team that won the World Series in 1981 and 1996. Michael is also credited with being one of the architects of the "Core Four" that led the Yankees to four World Series championships in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 1996, he was nominated for Executive of the Year by Baseball America.
Michael died on September 7, 2017 at the age of 79. He is remembered for his shrewd player evaluation and his ability to build winning teams. His contributions to the Yankees organization earned him the respect of players, coaches, and fans alike, and his legacy continues to be felt in the organization today.
