Foster's breakout year came in 1976 when he was playing for the Cincinnati Reds. He led the National League in home runs with 29 and helped the Reds win the National League West division title. The following year, he hit 52 home runs, drove in 149 runs, and won the National League Most Valuable Player Award. He was also a member of the "Big Red Machine," a group of talented players who won back-to-back World Series titles in 1975 and 1976.

Foster continued to play at a high level for several more seasons, earning All-Star honors five times and winning two Silver Slugger Awards. He retired in 1986 with a career batting average of .274, 348 home runs, and 1,239 runs batted in. Today, he is remembered as one of the best power hitters of his era and a key player on some of the greatest teams in baseball history.
