George Lombard was born on September 14, 1975, in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Lovett School where he played for the school's baseball team as a pitcher and right fielder. Lombard was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 1994 MLB draft. He began his professional baseball career the following year with the Gulf Coast League Braves. In 1998, Lombard made his debut with the Major League Baseball (MLB) team of the Braves. He only played 10 games in that season and found himself playing most of his career in the minor leagues for the next few years. He was traded to the Detroit Tigers in 2002 where he played for two seasons. Lombard again found himself playing mostly in the minor leagues, but he would return to the MLB for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2004 where he would become a valuable bench player.
