Gerald Laird was born on November 13, 1979, in Westminster, California. He played baseball at La Quinta High School in Garden Grove, California, where he was one of the top high school catching prospects in the country. After graduating from high school, Laird was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the second round of the 1998 draft. He spent several years in the minor leagues, playing for different organizations, before making his major league debut in 2003 with the Texas Rangers. More about Gerald Laird

Laird played for ten seasons in the major leagues, spending the majority of his career as a catcher with the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers. He was known for his defensive abilities and was a valuable member of the Tigers' 2012 American League Championship team. Laird was an excellent pitch-framer, and his ability to handle a pitching staff made him a valuable asset to any team he played for.

Over the course of his career, Laird played in 791 games, finishing his career with a .242 batting average, 38 home runs, and 202 RBI. Following his playing career, Laird became a minor league coach and served as a manager for the Arizona Diamondbacks' rookie league team in 2019. Laird was a respected player during his career, known for his professionalism and dedication to the game, and he continues to give back to the sport as a coach.
