McDougald was a key player on some of the great Yankees teams of the 1950s, including the 1951, 1952, 1953, and 1956 World Series champions. He was named to the American League All-Star team five times and won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 1951. McDougald was also a part of one of the most famous plays in World Series history, as he scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 5 of the 1956 World Series on a dramatic triple by Don Larsen.

Despite his success on the field, McDougald retired from baseball at the relatively young age of 32, citing a desire to spend more time with his family. He later became a successful businessman and philanthropist in New Jersey, where he lived with his wife and children. McDougald's legacy as a baseball player lives on, however, as he remains one of the most respected and beloved Yankees of all time. Read even more about Gil McDougald at Wikipedia
