Graig Nettles is a former American professional baseball player who was born on August 20, 1944, in San Diego, California. Nettles is best known for his incredible fielding skills, particularly at third base, where he won two Gold Gloves in his career. He began his baseball career as an amateur player for the San Diego Padres before being signed to the Minnesota Twins in 1965. However, it was with the New York Yankees that Nettles achieved the most success. Nettles played with the Yankees for eleven seasons from 1973 to 1984. During his time with the team, he helped lead them to two World Series championships in 1977 and 1978. In the 1978 World Series, Nettles made one of the greatest defensive plays in baseball history. In Game 3, he made five spectacular plays at third base, including a diving catch and a backhanded stop of a hard-hit ball, helping the Yankees win the game and ultimately the series.
