Hector Lopez

Hector Lopez was a Panamanian baseball player who made a name for himself in the Major League Baseball (MLB) during the 1950s and 1960s. Born on July 9, 1929, in Chiriquí, Panama, Lopez started playing professional baseball in 1948, with the Panama Canal Zone League. Once he made it to the majors, Lopez quickly established himself as a versatile player who could play multiple positions. During his 12-year-long career, he played as an outfielder and infielder, with most of his time spent at third base. He played for the Athletics, Milwaukee Braves, New York Yankees, and the Kansas City Royals. Lopez played a significant role in the New York Yankees winning the World Series three times - in 1961, 1962, and 1963. He was also an All-Star selection in 1966, his last season in the MLB.

After retiring from professional baseball in 1966, Lopez returned to his native Panama and started coaching young baseball players. He served as the national coach of Panama's baseball team and helped them win the 1969 Amateur World Series. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Lopez was inducted into the Panama Sports Hall of Fame in 1972. He lived a long life, passing away on October 1, 2015, in his hometown Boquete, Panama, at the age of 86.
