Hideki Matsui is a former Japanese professional baseball player who is widely regarded as one of the greatest outfielders in the history of the sport. Matsui began his professional career in Japan with the Yomiuri Giants in 1993, and he quickly established himself as one of the team's most reliable hitters. In 2003, Matsui made the jump to Major League Baseball when he signed with the New York Yankees. Over his seven seasons in the MLB, Matsui became a fan favorite for his clutch hitting, excellent defensive play, and his ability to perform well in pressure situations. He was a two-time All-Star and won a World Series championship with the Yankees in 2009, earning the World Series MVP award in the process.

Matsui retired from professional baseball in 2013, finishing his career with a .282 batting average, 175 home runs, and 760 runs batted in. His contributions to both the Yomiuri Giants and the New York Yankees earned him a spot in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest baseball players of all time.
