Nomo made his debut in the MLB in 1995 as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his rookie year, he became the first Japanese player to pitch in a Major League game. He quickly rose to prominence in his rookie season and even made it to the All-Star team. Nomo went on to achieve great success during his career and was a two-time All-Star and a recipient of the National League Rookie of the Year award.

Nomo is best remembered for his unorthodox pitching windup which included a hesitation before throwing the ball. He was known for his fastballs and unpredictable pitches which struck out many batters. Nomo played for 12 seasons before retiring in 2008, finishing his career with a record of 123 wins and 109 losses.
