Hiroki Kuroda is a former professional baseball player. Born on February 10, 1975, in Osaka, Japan, he played for 11 seasons in the Major League Baseball (MLB) as a pitcher. Kuroda began his baseball playing career in Japan, playing with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in the Japanese Central League (JCL). In 2007, Kuroda signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent, and in his debut season, he emerged as one of the best pitchers in the National League, receiving eighth place in the Cy Young Award voting. Throughout his MLB career, Kuroda was known for his pitch control, averaging 2.2 walks per nine innings, and his durability, reaching the 200-inning mark in four seasons. He played with the Los Angeles Dodgers until 2011, after which he signed with the New York Yankees. Kuroda played for the Yankees in three consecutive seasons (2012-2014) and was their most consistent pitcher, with an ERA below 4.00 in each year. Kuroda finished his MLB career with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in 2016, retiring at the age of 41.

Throughout his baseball career, Kuroda played in two All-Star games and won a silver medal with the Japanese national team in the 2004 Athens Olympics. In Japan, he has a career record of 103-89 with a 3.69 ERA, while in MLB, he finished with a record of 79-79 and a 3.45 ERA. Kuroda was known not only for his on-field performance but also for his character as a dedicated and intense player who continued to study and hone his craft throughout his career.
