Martin enjoyed a successful baseball career, playing for four different teams during his career in the major leagues. Over time, he developed a reputation for being a reliable catcher, particularly while playing for the Chicago White Sox. He was instrumental in the team’s success during the 1960 season, where they clinched their first American League pennant in 40 years. Martin’s contributions to the team were recognized and rewarded with the Gold Glove award, which he won in 1965 as a catcher during his time with the White Sox.

After retiring from professional baseball, Martin went on to become a baseball manager for both minor and major league teams. He also spent time as a television commentator for both CBS and NBC. J.C. Martin will long be remembered for his contribution to the game of baseball, particularly his achievements during his baseball career as a catcher and first baseman for the Chicago White Sox.
