Jack McKeon Autographs
Jack McKeon was born in South Amboy, New Jersey on November 23, 1930. He played baseball as a catcher and outfielder at the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts before signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1951. He spent several years playing in the minor leagues before making his major league debut with the Kansas City Athletics in 1963. Over the course of his 10 year playing career, McKeon played for four different teams including the Athletics, Washington Senators, Detroit Tigers, and Atlanta Braves.
After retiring as a player in 1974, McKeon began his career as a baseball manager. He managed several minor league teams before making his major league debut as a manager with the Kansas City Royals in 1973. He went on to manage the Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, and Florida Marlins. McKeon had his greatest success as a manager with the Marlins when he led them to a World Series championship in 2003. At the age of 72, he became the oldest manager to win a World Series.
Throughout his career, McKeon was known for his unconventional approach to managing. He was not afraid to take risks and was known for his willingness to give young players a chance. He also had a reputation for being a straight shooter and was never afraid to speak his mind. McKeon was inducted into the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012 in recognition of his contributions to the game of baseball. He remains one of the most respected and beloved figures in the history of the sport.
