Jake Gibbs is a former American professional baseball catcher who was born on November 7, 1938, in Grenada, Mississippi. He attended The University of Mississippi, where he played baseball as a catcher and a quarterback for their football team. Gibbs was a standout player in both sports and set multiple records, including being the first Ole Miss football player to pass for over 1,000 yards in a season. More about Jake Gibbs

Gibbs was signed by the New York Yankees in 1961 and made his major league debut in September of the same year. He quickly became a reliable catcher, known for his excellent defensive skills and his ability to call a game. Gibbs spent his entire ten-year career with the Yankees and was a member of three World Series championship teams in 1961, 1962, and 1978.
