Moyer's baseball career started when he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1984. He made his debut in the MLB in 1986 and played for the Cubs until 1988. Moyer then went on to play for the Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, Philadelphia Phillies, Colorado Rockies, and the Toronto Blue Jays. During his 25-year career, he pitched in 696 games, recorded 278 wins, 3,278 strikeouts, and his career ERA was 4.25.

Moyer is best known for his incredible performance with the Seattle Mariners. In 1999, he recorded a career-high 20 wins and led the Mariners to their first-ever American League Championship Series (ALCS). Moyer also played a significant role in the Mariners' record-setting 116-win season in 2001, as he pitched in 34 games and had a 20-6 record with a 3.43 ERA. In 2003, Moyer was named the MLB All-Star Game MVP, becoming the oldest player ever to receive the award.
