Jeff Jones is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for five different teams during his career. Born on August 23, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, Jones began his professional career in 1977 after being selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 16th round of the amateur draft. He spent four seasons in the minor leagues before making his debut with the Athletics in 1980. Jones played for the Athletics until 1982 before being traded to the Seattle Mariners. Jones' best season came in 1983 when he posted a 3.12 ERA with a record of 9-6 in 32 games for the Mariners. He spent two more seasons with the Mariners before being traded to the Texas Rangers in 1986. Jones also played for the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers before retiring in 1989. In total, he appeared in 196 games with a record of 22-29 and an ERA of 4.51.

After retiring from baseball, Jones became a pitching coach in the minor leagues for the Cincinnati Reds and the Detroit Tigers. In 2011, he was promoted to the role of pitching coach for the Detroit Tigers, a position he held until 2015. During his time as pitching coach, Jones helped develop and mentor several successful pitchers, including Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer, who both went on to win Cy Young Awards.
